Iran gifts peace carpet to Japan

Iranian artist Shahab Mohammadi has decided to donate his Peace carpet to the Hiroshima Peace Center in memory of Sadako Sasaki, one of the victims of the atomic bomb.

"I read Sadako's life story when I was only six years old and she has always been on my mind since then," Mohammadi told ISNA.

Lost Kafka writings in ownership battle

Two elderly Israeli women have claimed a collection of unpublished writings by Frantz Kafka, which they say to have inherited from their mother.

The never-published papers have been retrieved from ten safety deposit boxes in Tel Aviv and Zurich on the order of an Israeli court.

World's oldest opera singer dies at 98

The world's oldest opera singer, Luo Pinchao, has passed away at the age of 98 at his home in the city of Guangzhou in southern China.

The Cantonese Opera star, who was ranked as the world's oldest opera singer by the Guinness World Records, died on July 15, 2010.

US filmfest to screen Iran's 'Oyan'

The 2010 edition of the All Roads Film Project is scheduled to screen the Award-winning Iranian short film directed by Esmail Monsef, Oyan.

The 19-minute film which received the Silver Gentian award of the 58th Trento Film Festival recounts the story of a postman and a girl who is waiting to receive letters from her prisoner husband from across the border.

Iran tops Wimbledon Shorts 2010

The 2010 edition of the Wimbledon Shorts film festival has awarded its top prize to a nine-minute production by Iranian Kurdish filmmaker Bijan Zamanpira.

Mirror and Water received the event's Best Short Film Award after winning the competition against 400 films from around the globe.

Mona Lisa reveals new secrets

A new study has revealed traces of a technique used by Leonardo da Vinci to create the shading on the face of Mona Lisa, his greatest masterpiece.

According to the study published in the journal Angewandte Chemie, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry found an explanation for the ultra-thin layers of glaze and pigment used to achieve light to dark transitions.

Georgia exhibits Iranian paintings

The event, which is held along with an Iranian photo exhibition, displays some 50 paintings by Farzaneh and Hossein Mahjoubi.

Louvre holds exhibition on Saudi Arabia

The Louvre Museum has mounted an exhibition on the history of Saudi Arabia, presenting a selection of archeological relics and artifacts in Paris.

The event displays photographs and some 300 artifacts, most of which have never been seen outside the Saudi Arabian borders, Artdaily reported.
